PERSONAL EFFECTS AND USED HOUSEHOLD GOODS are admitted free of duty & taxes only in the following cases:
(Foreign citizens and Italian citizens returning are allowed to import duty free only if they lived abroad in the same country for a period of minimum 12 MONTHS.)

DOCUMENTATION REQUESTED BY ITALIAN CUSTOMS for a free duty and tax admittance:

FOREIGN CITIZENS:

Copy of Passport (clear picture)

Copy of TAX CODE number called “CodiceFiscale”

Customs form called “DichiarazioneSostitutiva di certificazione” to be completed and signed by shipper (we will supply the form).

Copy of Certificate of taken residence or Application released by the City Hall, which must specify: number of family members, nationality, city and Country of origin from where he is transferring the residence, date of taken residence in Italy. The client has one year from the day of taken residence to import the household goods duty free.

Copy of payment of Television License Tax called “Canone RAI” (if any television imported)

ITALIAN CITIZENS RETURNING:

Original of Consular declaration released by the Italian Consulate /Embassy at origin called “Dichiarazioneconsolare di rimpatrio”. This certificate must specify the period of time resided abroad (minimum 12 months), all family members and that it is a definitive return to Italy indicating where the Italian residence will be taken including complete address. The client has one year from the date he leaves the foreign country to import the household goods duty free.

Inventory of the goods in Italian language signed by client and visaed by Italian Consulate/ Embassy at origin and attached to the “Dichiarazioneconsolare di rimpatrio”

Copy of Passport (clear picture)

Copy of TAX CODE number called “CodiceFiscale”

Customs form called “DichiarazioneSostitutiva di certificazione” to be completed and signed by shipper (we will supply the form).

Copy of payment of Television License Tax called “Canone RAI” (if any television imported)

FOREIGN DIPLOMATS:

Copy of Diplomatic Franchise (called Telespresso) addressed to the Italian Ministry of Foreign affairs issued by their Embassy in Italy (application to be requested prior to arrival of goods)

Valued inventory in Italian language signed by client

VEHICLES

are admitted duty free in the following cases:
Foreigner taking residence in Italy have to supply with the same documents requested to import household goods plus:
Original Title, Apostille certificate, registration and manufacturer’s data plus copy of insurance valid onto national territory. Such documents must be translated and certified by the nearest Italian Consulate/Embassy at origin.
Client has to prove that the car/motorbike was used in his place of origin for at least 6 MONTHS before the arrival in Italy
Italian citizens returning from abroad has to supply with the same documents requested to import household goods plus:
Original Title, Apostille certificate, registration and manufacturer’s data plus copy of insurance valid onto national territory. Such documents must be translated and certified by the nearest Italian Consulate/Embassy at origin.
Client has to prove that the car/motorbike was used and owned abroad for at least 6 MONTHS and that he has lived abroad for a period of minimum 12 MONTHS.

PAINTINGS, SCULPTURES AND ANTIQUITIES

Depending on which kind of artistic items and antiquities are imported they may require inspection by “Italian Arts Commission”

PETS

Pets can be brought into Italy with a certificate of origin and health certificate issued by a veterinary surgeon at origin.

The certificate must be in Italian as well as in the official language of the Country of origin.
It must state that the pet has been examined the day the certificate was issued and that it is in good health.
It must state that the pet has been vaccinated against rabies at least 20 days before certificate was issued. The certificate is valid for 30 days only.
